2014 WALT "Sierra Mar" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir - Sierra Mar

Critic Review
Matt Kettmann - Wine Enthusiast
Sultry aromas of black plum, violet, lava rocks, smoke, caramelized beef, forest floor and star anise draw the nose into this hearty, well-rounded wine. There is both vibrant energy and tannic grip to the palate, with dense, dark cranberry, tangy fruit skins, a touch of vanilla and a minty fennel element on the finish.

Deep garnet in color, Sierra Mar showcases spiced oak laced with cedar, pepper, fenugreek and ripe pomegranate on the nose. The palate is very dense with flavors of ripe red fruit accented by bergamot, crushed granite and savory notes. The finish is powerful and dense - this wine transforms with time in the glass.

In 2014, an exceptionally dry winter and warm spring led to an early bud break. The growing season ran ahead of schedule all year. The lower yields produced concentrated, complex, and age-worthy wines.
