2016 BACA Tug O' War Zinfandel
Zinfandel - Maffei Vineyard, Russian River 2016 Vintage

"The Maffei Vineyard is located in the Russian River Valley, first planted in the 1940s. The site is slightly cooler. The wine shows a darker fruit profile with milk chocolate and stewed blackberry, with milk chocolate and a plush mouthfeel."
Russian River AVA – Maffei Vineyard
Tug O' War was born in California’s historic vineyards planted many decades ago by a community of Italian immigrants. Here, gorgeous old vines struggle in limited, loamy soils. The resulting wines exhibit profound depth, nuance, and serious aging potential. Here, warm days create rich wine with pure, explosive, ripe berry flavors, which are tempered by the cool, foggy marine nights that give this Zinfandel a nerve of acidity.
This is a serious wine that seriously ups the ante. Its nose is classic Russian River: fresh, dark fruits like strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, and pomegranate. But despite its ripe, fruity nose, its palate is decidedly, surprisingly vibrant—dense, concentrated, structured, layered with a glorious acidity. Tug O’ War is long lived so it will age well. Pair it with a strong dish—this wine can hold its own.
